Maeve Gilchrist

Strings to stir the spirit

đź“… Wednesday, February 12 at 7:30PM
đź“Ť The Monarch

Upon hearing the ethereal sounds of Maeve Gilchrist, you may think you’ve entered another realm. The Scottish harpist/composer is turning the instrument’s stereotypes on their heads. Born and raised in Edinburgh in a musical family, Gilchrist stretches the harmonic limits of the stringed instrument, creating moving music that feels “both ancient and utterly contemporary” (Irish Times). The result is buoyant, beguiling, and comforting, like a sonic postcard home. Known for her improvisational skills and collaborations with Esperanza Spalding, Yo-Yo Ma, the Silkroad Project and other innovators, Maeve Gilchrist also became the first lever harpist instructor at her alma mater, Berklee College of  Music. Settle in for an enchanting pre-Valentine’s evening at The Monarch that’ll tug on your heartstrings.
