Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3
The Fiery & Frenetic Season Finale
🗓️ Thursday, April 23 at 7:30PM
📍 Browning Center at WSU
An audience favorite and the most beloved of Prokofiev’s five piano concertos, Piano Concerto No. 3 stands out in kaleidoscopic brilliance. Described as “devilishly difficult” by the composer himself, No. 3 unfolds like a lively dialogue – or a boxing match – between orchestra and piano. The equally matched contenders come out swinging, trading blustery blows and witty jabs until the frenetic finale.
The evening evolves as your Utah Symphony illuminates Elgar’s “passionate pilgrimage of the soul” in Symphony No. 2. Dedicated to the late King Edward VII in 1911, Elgar’s deeply personal and introspective symphony starts off triumphantly before revealing layers of underlying conflict. Discover decadent melodies and startling depth in this night devoted to early 20th century treasures.
